Gorgeous and Grumpy Single Father Meets Feisty Female Firefighter!

Dad in distress. Smokejumper to the rescue!

Widower Marcus Ricci has always been a hero: the fair boss, the good son, the responsible brother, the model dad. Now he's gone from good-natured to grouchy in one short birthday -- not his; his daughter Linnie's. She's hit thirteen, and he's hit a brick wall trying to communicate with her. He just can't make her understand the dangers of joining him on his construction sites.

To make matters worse, he has another female determined to interfere in his construction business. Injured Smokejumper-turned-Arson-Investigator Zoe Montgomery's investigation into a dangerous firebug has led her straight to his construction business. Her meddling is driving him crazy... or could that be the sparks flying between them?

Zoe Montgomery has always been a woman of goals and action. She's never considered starting a family, but when she meets Marcus' rebellious daughter she starts wondering what she's missing. It's too bad the teen comes with such a grumpy and growly (but gorgeous) dad.

Zoe is determined to catch the firebug, help the frustrated teen, and definitely control the flames blazing between Marcus and herself. Then she realizes his bark is worse than his bite and his kisses... to-die-for.

Now she's wondering if she wants their twosome to become a threesome, and he's wondering if she might be his second chance for happiness. Is the sexual tension between them turning into love?

Third in the Hero’s Hearts series, Joining Hearts combines compelling characters, strong family relationships, and realistic conflicts to create a beautiful balance of heat, heartache, and happiness.

One Contractor plus one Arson Inspector equals sparks and flames...
By Trish S
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! Marcus was previously introduced to us in the first book of this series. He was a likable character in that book so I was pleased to see that his story was now being told. I got a different feel for Marcus in this book than in the first book--perhaps because he was the focus of this book and his personality could be further explored. His love interest in this book, Zoe, was also an interesting character. I looked at a couple of the conclusions that she jumped to and thought, "Why didn't she do thus and so before going down that road? It would be more logical." Then I would sit back and remember that Zoe is a young woman who hasn't been around for the years that I have. When I'd consider that, I realized that she was probably behaving exactly as someone her age would. Marcus was just a tad abrasive at times but I think that came from his frustration and worry of dealing with the problems of his charming daughter, Linnie, and the worries surrounding Zoe's investigation. While Marcus didn't come off in the beginning of the book as sweet as in the previous book, I did warm up to him once I understood his situation.

Marcus underwent a tremendous amount of personal growth in this book. He came to understand that he couldn't wrap his daughter in bubble wrap and protect her from every aspect of life. He learned to compromise and bend just a bit. He was a much more balanced and likable man at the end of the book. Zoe wasn't so arbitrary and stiff, either, at the conclusion of the book. They make a cute couple. Linnie is an absolute scene stealer, however. If the series were to go on long enough, she could definitely get her own story in a few years.

This is a very enjoyable read. While it is definitely a standalone book, you'll really benefit the most if you've read the previous volumes in this series to fully appreciate all the nuances of the different personalities in the secondary characters. Oh, and I spotted the villain as soon as he appeared in the book in this one. I particularly like the disposition of his character...

One to melt your heart!!!

This is the third book in the Hero's Heart Series. This book was just as heartwarming as the previous two. This book involves Marcus, who is in the first book, his teenage daughter, Linnie, and Zoe. Zoe was injured in a fire jumping incident and is recuperating. During this time, she is working as an arson investigator. Her investigation leads her to Marcus Reid, of the Ricci Brothers construction business. Zoe and Marcus, both have baggage for their past, and Marcus has control issues with Linnie. Together, Marcus and Zoe, make an ideal couple. Since I remember Marcus from the first book, it was really nice to hear his story. Great love story.

Wasn't in love with the characters
By N. Morgan
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in this series that I've read. And each book has been consistent without being repetitious. In this book, there's a female smoke jumper/firefighter (Zoe) who gets injured in the line of duty and has to take a job as an arson inspector until her injuries heal. During the course of an arson investigation, she meets and immediately becomes both annoyed and intrigued by a widowed father, Marcus. Even though he's her main suspect, her feelings for the man grow, as do her feelings for his daughter. Should she risk her heart or risk her job?

I have to say that I didn't enjoy these characters as much as I did in previous books. We've actually met Marcus and his daughter before in the first book. He's the brother of the main male character in book 1. In this book, we get more into his story and how he falls for the fire investigator. I actually sympathized more with Marcus than I did with Zoe. She was in a bad place and kind of let that influence her mood and behavior. She had a bad attitude about people in general that seemed to influence how she acted around them. She kind of got on my nerves. As did Marcus' daughter. And his family. I personally seem to think there's a fine line to parenting and everyone was making it incredibly hard for him to do what he deemed appropriate for his own child. His daughter came across as a bit rude, mouthy, hard headed and insolent, but I tried to remember that she was only 13 and that's generally how they tend to be. Marcus had his good moments with her that seemed to balance it all.

The book was interesting, although I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two books. I think the characters just didn't do it for me. I liked the idea of Marcus being a single, widowed father. But I didn't enjoy the daughter being in the story as much as I thought I would. I didn't enjoy the romance between Marcus and Zoe as much as I thought I would. As with the other books, the HEA came suddenly and abruptly. I needed a bit more convincing to see these two as a viable pair.
